Bongo Fury

Having picked up 3 points shortly after getting my Freda and now having 6 points for the next few months I'm like a cat on hot bricks around speed limit areas. I would like an automatic alert that could be switched in with say a button on the steering wheel when entering a limit area and then would buzz or whatever if the speed was exceeded until turned off.

I know that sat nav systems have some feature of this kind but I'm not up for paying those prices! Daydreaming about it I wondered if there would be some 'chip' perhaps that read from the speedo input to give a basis for development. Mike, Pippin et al any ideas.....

I find it very difficult to hold my Freda within 30mph - where I live some of the restricted areas are downhill with not many buildings around - confusing!

I've done a google and there doesnt seem to be much around - paricularly in the low cost area.

road angel 2 are quite cheap now,they have a speed alert on that you can set to what ever speed you like,also camera alerts on,but i think these may need updating at a cost,i picked one up for £50 just to use to confirm my speed,does pick cameras up, but i never update it,so may miss a few and pick some up what are not there.

Here i have my Road Angel safety camera and laser detector, selling due to new sat nav has it built in.

It works well but has no subscription at the moment so that will have to added by the buyer ( all registration details will be given to the buyer after the sale is complete)
Comes with a bracket to stick it to the wind screen, car charger and usb lead.

Paid £400.00 for it when they first came out, so why not bag your self a bargin.

Like you I have a hell of a job staying at 30mph in our bongo but after a few close calls and my sat nag (er indoors) telling me to slow down, I now change down from D to a lower gear when in 30mph limits....It means that you can take your foot off the accellerator and tootle along at 30 without worries.

My auto box will not let me do as little as 30mph downhill or on the flat in drive even with my foot off so I end up having to brake all the time.

Just managed to lose my last 3 points (time expired) so now I have a 'clean' licence but as I drive for a living my missus has threatened me with death if I get done again

Cruise controls work in that they restrict your speed to what you want it to be. But these are really for motorways and are awkward to use in built up areas.

Harry.. Is it okay on the box to drive around town in a lower gear. I never use the others unless in snow... Also can you change from a lower gear into D whilst moving... I dare not try incase I mash something.

They are very cheap at the moment and most have the safety camera feature installed...

Small enough to carry around in hand if out and about on foot for points of interest also...

I have one and think it is great... It also displays what speed I am doing if I am not being navigated

Looks very interesting at the price but re speed alert it does'nt do any more than my speedo. I've looked at the manual online and there doesnt seem to be a settable alert.

You could always watch the speedo and adhere to the limit for the road you are on?
After all, it works for millions of others.

I have had the pleasure of dealing with 3 N.I.P.'s in the past 2 years, only 1 amounted to fine and points.

Well I do watch the speedo and my right foot but its amazing how with the best will in the world when I glance down to the speedo the needle is wandering up. As is clear I dont want to speed where I should'nt - just difficult to hold to the limit without being silly and holding everyone up at 20 mph

Would a bleeper coming on every time you nudged over 30 not be bl--dy annoying?

Have a check in you locoal aldi store, a couple of weeks ago they were doin a gps controlled speed trap detector which covers all forms of speed detectors and it was around 50 quid. They tend to keep them in store as well for some time after. Worth a try. Happy motoring. It was actually 23.12.07 it was on sale at £59.99 so they may still have them., I will check our store over the w/end.

You can do anything with the gear selection (except engage reverse or park) when driving along - the gearbox is smart enough no to change down unless it is happy to do so therefore you won't do any damage.
