Bongo Fury

Hi, my horn stopped working whilst away on holiday, I bought a replacement from Halfords but it was twin spaded so still wouldn't work. Tried today and found that the original horn does work when cabled across the battery terminals but not when connected correctly in the bongo. When I press the horn button in the centre of the steering wheel I can hear the relay click each time I press but no power appears to be getting to the horn. This has now got too teccie for me, so do any of you 'experts' out there know whats to do please?

Hope you had a good holiday.
One thing I would try is to test the earth connection/plug at the horn. I would do this by using a muiltimeter, they are "cheap as chips" these days, and test for continuity (complete circuit) between the connection and another earth point, like bodywork etc. There should be continuity found. If not you have a bad earth. A +12v on the other pin/connection could also be tested with a meter.

Don't know if it's any help, but I could well be in Wick on Monday, if your about? ( Please remember I'm by no means an expert, but I'm learning )

Having same trouble with mine.
Where the hell is the relay for the horn situated?
I've looked on the 'Lush' site but nothing specific there; lots of relays number 67-7403 but nothing to indicate hooter relay.
Is the Glow Plug relay a 12v 16amp rating?

you've probably already checked the fuse?

Yep. Checked continuity etc, and all I can hear is the relay clicking, but I don't know which of the many relays near the battery is the correct one; assuming that it is situated there.

Have taken the 7 relays off and still there is another relay clicking. Took the fuse out, that's OK and no clicking relay. Checked the Horn again, now deaf in one ear, that's OK.
I can only assume that there is a relay somewhere under the dash but I am fed up with at moment. Will explore another day,

Heres a relatively 'simple' solution,providing you've not got a steering wheel airbag (if you have,not sure of removal) , buy a cheap twin connection horn and replace original single connection horn,pull off centre of steering wheel, ,disconnect and insulate wire to horn contact ring and run a new wire down the column into bonnet area,connect to good earth. Run another wire with an inline fuse from horn to live side of battery. Job done! unless you're going to Italy or similar a relay isn't really necessary for the length of time its used, also this way the horn button is the earth connection and not 'live'. Thats how mine now works, couldn't find any other cure. Good Luck

Ive had same problem with horn, basically to get through mot i ended up taking a live feed from the vehicle battery to the relay .It seems that although the relay operates it does not seem have a supply.Cant remember all the reasons for this other than you have to provide a alternative 12v supply to the relay for the horn to work again. Hope this helps as temp repair

Hi. I had the same problem, and would really recommend you check the ribbon that sits in the boss of the steering wheel carefully. If you have a driver's airbag, the ribbon also sends the signal for that.

The ribbon does fracture over time (according to Bell's garage, it is a fairly common problem). My airbag light came on one day, and stayed on. Instead of investigating, I removed the warning bulb ! Anyway, 2 or 3 weeks later the horn packed up, and I eventually discovered the dodgy coiled ribbon under the steering wheel. Bell's garage were able to source a 2nd hand coil (£60 !, but a very helpful fellow and a quick delivery), and I fitted it and all problems vanished. I have now replaced the warning bulb for the airbag, and it goes out when it should.

If you do replace the wired coil, follow the instructions on the cassette to the letter. You need to partially wind it before fitment, so that it has the requisite slack for left and right turnings of the steering wheel.
