Radiator fans don't turn on for cooling.

My Bongo, Friendee, which is a year 2000, second hand, import from Japan. It runs as sweet as a nut BUT it does have this coolant indication problem that has me a little worried. When the engine is up to temp. the temp. gauge sits at between 1145 and 1200hrs, at this temp I'd have thought at least one radiator fan would start. If I turn the air cond on, both rad. fans start and don't stop untill I turn the air cond off.
Both these fans have four wires going to them. I've bought a 2nd hand rad. from a brakers yard here, just in case I need it, both fans have only two wires for each fan. The rad. has the same dimensions as mine and I'm told the second hand rad. is from a petrol Friendee.
I've tried swapping a few of the relays, under the bonnet, about with no effect. The temp sensor that's at the top of the engine block, on the drivers side, (we're just like you guys, we're a RHD nation) I have measured the resistance of and it appears to be working in the fact it's a varable resistance (measured hot and cold). I've taken the advice on the site and shorted the one wire leading to this sensor to ground, the temp. gauge went full scale but no relay sound was heard (click) and the fan/s didn't start up. I've asked Mazda NZ about the problem, they've referred me to the local Mazda authrised repair agent (I'd not even take an enemies car there.)
My questions are 1, is there a relay that opperates the fan/s? As I doubt the ECU/EMU control them dirrectly, at least I hope not. If I knew where the relay was, at least I'd be able to confirm whether it worked or not.
And 2, is there such a thing as a wiring diagram to at least help me sort out in my brain, what's going on.
And 3, is there a temperature switch somewhere that turns the fan/s on, if so, where is it? I've looked in all the obvious places and can't find one.
Cheers, Ian Milne.
