Bongo Fury

Right, this is going to be difficult to describe without access to a camera at the mo, but.....
I need to re wire the rear fog light (the monkey who originally fitted it TAPED the wires to the switch). Anyway the difficulty is that the switch has a light in......and it has four terminals.

Now it is only a single pole, but there were three wires going to it, 'securely' taped to it.... aaand......when you switched the switch on, the light came on... and the LED came on....... this is all i need to happen, on/off with accompanying led.....

Right, now as the wires fell off when I removed the switch and two of them shorted, I jumped, shouted an expletive or five, and I have no idea which went where.....Try hard as I might, I am afflicted with being a muppet, and have now run out of fuses trying to figure this out....

HELP PLEASE...

If anyone can explain how these SIMPLE switches should be wired, id be very grateful. I'm gonna add a relay too, but that's the easy bit!!!!

What are the labels on the terminals. Doeas it look anything like this?

1 | 2
L1 | L2

If not, what does it look like?

if only the labels were something useful.....
they are:
1 2
3 4
so same pattern, two in the middle, two at the end.
I have tried to work out the continuity using a multi-meter but they all seem inter-related not a simple make/break.....

I assumed the middle were +ve and the end ones one to light, and one to earth for the led, but darn it fuses go pop when i try this...

I know I'm gonna kick myself when I find out....

Set your multimeter to ohms.

Disconnect switch fully.

Connect red lead to 1.

Connect black to 2.

Hopefully you should have a circuit, but with a high resistance with switch in either position.

Connect black to 4, you should have the same high resistance but only with switch on.

Then connect black lead to 3.

With switch off, you should have an open circuit, with it on there should be a low resistance.

If this is the case:

1: Main 12v supply in.
2: Leave blank
3: Switched supply to lights
4: Negative for LED

Hope that helps.

Otherwise, keep red attached to 1, as this should almost definatley be the 12v supply and let me know what redings inohms you get for each switch position on the remaining 3 pins.
