has anyone attempted to remove part of the strut behind the radio compartment of the dashboard, i have bought today a dvd / cd player from lidl's & it is a bit longer than the one that came out, it wont seat into the slide mount by about 3/4 inch, any advice on cutting this piece out would be greatly appreciated, lee :?

Ahhhhhh, yes I had to do that.
I tried doing it technically, but not having babies arms and hands combined with my strength, nothing worked.
Until I took a long chisel, large hammer and gently, but unceramoniously, bashed it flat.

Try removing the glove box, this will give you access from the side and give you a better idea of what is causing the obstruction, you may find it is the wiring harness to the radio which can be rerouted to give you the extra room you require.

Just hope that it is not part of that long metal structure running the width of the Bongo.

It is there to save your life in the event of a head-on smash.

Lee, see my above post.
I have done this and the easiest way was to squash it. I didn't want to try and remove it totally, as it is welded to the cross strut and I didn't want to weaken it by removing the welds.
I know it sounds a little butcherous, butit was the only way I could see around the obstruction. :? :)
