Scavenging Fan

As yet I have been unable to find any info or factsheets details on the controls for this fan to cool the engine (not heater fans).
How and where are the controls for this fan?
At present it will not switch off (engine cold) even after the ignition key is removed and previously was unconnected.
My recently acquired CD (supposedly a workshop manual for FORD ranger, freda and BONGO) shows a lovely drawing of this fan but no details of the controls.

That explains why it was previously disconnected then... I'd have thought it was connected to the thermostat somehow? perhaps via some kind of temperature sensor.
Is your thermostat ok?
Is your aircon switched on? That automatically switches on the radiator fans.

It will be connected to a 'thermoswitch' and this will be stuck in the closed circuit position.
They are usually situated around the thermostat area on the engine and can be a push on spade, bullet female style, or screw and eyelet connector, the latter being rare.
If you get the fan turning, then access the area around the thermostat, then start to disconnect the wires from the different units on the engine, you should be able to (by a process of elimination) pull off the correct wire and stop the fan spinning.

Hi
The sensor for the scavenger fan is up by the handbrake. If you find the wires going to a little black gadget that protrudes into the engine compartment, this is the device you are looking for. Should be easy enough to replace. When the fan goes on, pull the connector off ....if it stops, theres the problem

This thread is looking exciting. With so many good tips BonGoRANT, don't forget to post the results of your enquiries so we can assess the sleuthing skills of the BF detectives
Good luck
