Bongo Fury

I'm not happy.

Over a year ago I had to replace my front diff and viscous coupler. (See http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... highlight= for the gory details.)

The transmission system is now whining quite loudly again, although the van drives OK. I'm not sure I can face having the transmission system done yet again, with no guarantee that it will not fail again in a years time.

Indecision time - what should I do?

Check it isn't just uneven tyre wear "blocking" causing the noise.

Disconnect the front propshaft and see if the noise has gone and leave it off.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. It doesn't sound like it is coming from the tyres though.

My back "went" today, so I won't be doing any work on the van for a while. but when I do, how do I disconnect the prop shaft? Do I have to take the whole thing off?

Ours had a whine for all the world like a diff but a change
of front tyres and it as completely gone.

Must be the only exclusive club that will have me!

Actually, it was due to a Polo (car, not mint).

I will try rotating the tyres around and see if it changes the whine.

Maybe I've used the wrong terminology here........ I call "blocking" when the tyres wear unevenly and they start to tear up into blocks in the tread like an off road tyre

Finally got the Bongo to a transmission specialist, who is now rebuilding the rear differential. I'm not sure my pockets are big enough to keep this vehicle!

i am about to get mine done so any info on costs would be great. what mine does is a nasty whinning noise which goes as soon as you lift of the accelorator. it is a constant thing and comes and goes each time you touch and remove the accelerator so i am guessing one of you smarty pants will know what it is,

I suspect your problem isn't coming form the differential because it isn't constant at a constant vehicle speed. Mine whined as the vehicle gathered speed, but didn't change when I took my foot off the accelerator.

Perhaps a belt or something similar?

Sounds like it might be the start of a manifold stud going.

Ok so I decide to use my Freeda today for a trip tp Plymouth(this is the first time she has had a run since i bought it in December) at approx 100km per hour I am gettin the most annoying droning noise however if you push her to around 110 km it dont go but it does go a lot quieter unitil your speed drops to around the 100 km again and below, I also noticed that when I stopped at the traffic lights it was obviously quiet until I pulled off the Droning noise was there at low speed granted not as loud as at 100km. the reason for the post is that I have a small amount of warranty remaining take her back I hear you say thats fine but what im affraid of is that I would hate to think they would do a quick fix on it to see out the remaining warranty and then leave me with a huge pocket emptying bill!!! what I need to do is try to make them aware I know whats wrong with her and duly ask them to put it right. I would appreciate all your thoughts on this.
