Film on headlights

There appears to be a film on my headlights like very fine selotape.

I can clearly see the reflector and bulb through a worn patch. Elsewhwre it,s fogged and must adversely effect the quality of the beams.

Has anyone else had this problem? Whats the best way to remove this film without damaging the lens?

regards,
Steve

This has had extensive coverage in the forum.

Lots and lots of ideas were given.

Try doing a search - you should be able to find it all.

It will be a long and interesting read when you do - basically you will need a lot of elbow-grease to solve the problem.

AND DONT USE THINNERS OF ANY KIND,THEY ARE PLASTIC LENSES.

Do you mean a film on the INSIDE of the lens Responder?

I think this is due (like dbo rightly points out)to the plastic lens being adversely affected by the heat of the bulb.

I believe using U.V. resistant bulbs cures the yellowing effect.

I think i remember reading that T-cut removes the yellow film.

This film, whatever it is ,is definitely on the outside of the lens.
Reluctant to use solvents on the plastic lenses I tried bigdaddycaine's
tip about T cut. Magic!! It hasn't shifted the film but has changed
the clarity of the lens so the bulb/reflector is visible.
Lights are so much brighter, tanx again for the advice.
