Bongo Fury

Had a little toad jemmy his way in to help himself to the stereo recently, passenger lock is damaged and (?coincidentally?) the drivers side lock wont turn with the key. does anyone know of compatible ?mazda/?ford replacements, and is it likely to be a hell of a job? i read the piece on removing door panels, and reckon I could do that, but will the lock mechanism be horribly complicated?
first time poster, any replies appreciated.

Might be worth asking your local Mazda dealer if nobody knows the answer on here.

As far as we know, Bongo door locks are not compatible with any other vehicle. But I may be wrong.

Assuming you are a member of the club, we can obtain a replacement key & lock set for you from Japan. This will NOT match your existing key(s) though. It takes 12 days to come from Japan, and the cost is £51.50 delivered.

Email me with your membership & VIN numbers if you want to go ahead.

Not a difficult job to change them. Allow about an hour for the first one then 30 mins

annoying I think as you can buy a cd radio thing for £50, I can't see it's worth the risk......

and now instead of £50 (or whatever!) you have another £100 and a few hours labour on top..... which is the annoying bit

Why can't they just smash a window and lift the lock tab. Isn't that what the quarter lights are for?

You've fallen in to the trap of assuming there is something approaching a brain in there.

That's why I expected them to just smash a window..............................................

thanks for all advice, turns out not needed, took off door panels (even easier than advice sheet on this website suggests, and a doddle compared with VWs) and found retaining clips (barrel to door, and barrel to lock linkage) all down at bottom of door. one 'circlip' was a bit of bent wire- wonderful to think of bodgers in Japan, maybe he was the same grease monkey who left his packet of chewing gum under the seat. does anyone else find themselves wondering about the previous owners in this way?

I too have a door-lock which has been in far too close proximity to a toe-rag's flat-blade screw driver . Surely someone out there knows of an equivalent lock from another mazda or ford model that could be found in a scap yard ( I am not that bothered about keys)... locks are not usually the kind of device that car manufactures develop from scratch - they re-use what they have on the shelf. In a similar viein, I remember Discovery mk1 owners not being too chuffed when told that their new pride and joy shared door handles with another fine BL car - the Morris Marina!

the other option is find your local boyracer body shop and find out how much it would cost to de-lock the car and install a keyless entry system.....thatll confuse the thiefing toerags when they cant find a lock to stick their screwdriver in (just dont flatten your battery otherwise you aint getting in)
