Got my Freda - Now for the full house Veg Oil conversion

Hello all, i'm a newbe here, got my Freda about a 2 weeks ago (P reg, 2wd, 2.5td, lift top, 95k miles) and it's great, love it, (never had a diesel before).

Done the cam belt & all the filter changes (does the air filter get to look like a 20 year old bit of carpet underlay real quick or did the guy I bought from tell a porky when he said it was fully serviced about a year ago ?). Anyway all seems well, no smoke and on a 250 mile round trip to Totness for an quick overnight stay (sooo much better than a tent) looks like I got a shade over 30 mpg :), not bad for 70'ish on the M5 and 20 miles on country lanes to find a campsite open in mid October, (not many  ).

I digress, this is the techie forum. Over the past week, I've bunged some veg oil in about 30 % now (Sunflower Oil from Lidl 68ppl and Corn Oil from Tesco 49ppl) and it's going great, corn oil seems a bit thick but there's no rapesead oil to be had for lover nor money around here (Bristol). Starts instantly and no smoke as far as I can tell, but I think idles speed has droped a smigin.

Anyway, I'm seriously interested in going the whole hog and fitting a twin tank 100% veg oil system. I've been looking around and the kits supplied by Dieselveg in Wolverhampton seem the most comprehensive with both electrical and coolant water heating, twin 3 way valves for supply and return to tank. The full kit including a 22l diesel startup tank (which I might not use as I've got a 'spare' 10 galon tank which I think will fit beside the existing one ) is £475 inc VAT, sound a lot but event at my modest 6-8000 miles pery year, I'd get that back in a year buying oil from the local supermarkets, let alone wholesale or filtering used oil for free from my local chippy

Has anyone experience of Dieselveg or their products ?

Has anyone run a Bongo/Freda on heated 100% veg oil ?

Cheers

Congrats on your new Freda - great motor arent they.

BF Member Torchwood is running on 100% veg oil and working on low cost ideas. Read some of his threads for background. Others have been using veg oil mix for some time (David Edwards is 4+ years into it) with no probs. Torchwood is worth checkign with as he makes a point about ensuring your return valve (for when the engine is cold) doesnt mix up disel and veg oil as he thinks a small diesel tank could go fo a long time as long as it is kept uncontaminated with veg oil. The point then is that a small diesel tank could possibly be squeezed into the engine compartment, so you dont lose load space in the vehicle. It is then hard to fill but, provided diesel in it stays pure, would only need filling at infrequent intervals.

I'd like to do all this stuff if I had the time and energy.

I'll do it............Later!

Good luck
