after my bongo visiting the garage 4 times since i bought it in june i'm still having problems.the last visit i had a new head fitted which took 5 weeks  . i've had new thermostat, radiotor flushed threw, air block un blocked and have been told everything is fine.yet my temperature gauge takes a while to warm up then settles to the 11 oclock postion then after 20 mins or so completely drops back past the c mark ,hovers there for a bit then moves back up and down.this happens 6-7 times over a 2hr journey.does anyone have any suggestions as i'm at my witts end and so close to selling my bongo which i love when working properly.thanks all.

If it moves up when the engine is working harder (going uphill etc) and cools off when not stressed, I'd say you have a faulty thermostat that is stuck open. If it's totally random, check the connections to the gauge and any earths.

Only by taking it out and testing in in a saucepan of hot water. It should be closed when cold and open when the water nears boiling (80deg C I think).

You say you have had a new thermostat fitted and the fault persists. That would rule out the thermostat. Is your top hose "hot"? it should be. After a good run is your bottom hose just warm ? it should be. If this is the case I would suggest nothing is basicly wrong with your cooling system. It points towards a faulty gauge/wireing/earth.
Does the bongo run well ? Does it lose coolant? Is the oil uncontaminated with water?
Did the garage understand bongos?

Sorry, Forget that about the sender unit. Mixing up the fuel with temp in my excitment. The temp sender is under the drivers seat on the side of the Head.

You have to unbolt the front passenger seat then tip it back to access the engine bay. The Thermostat is on the left in front of the engine and dipstick, next to the water pump with its pully and drive belt. To access the engine follow the instructions in the video below.

Remember....Top hose "HOT" Bottom hose "JUST WARM" is what you are after. If thats o.k. replace the temp sender unit after checking all wireing on that circuit.
Go to http://www.sig.itel.net and check out the TM-2 temp alarm. Dead easy to fit and will give you a very accurate temp reading all the time. I have one fitted co's the bongo one is rubbish. You can find them on ebay

my bongo went back to the dealer and he used his normal garage.he said thermostat had been changed but i'm not too sure as the first time it went back it had a massive hole in one of the hoses which aa man taped together when called and then dealer after supposedly checking everything said it was all sorted, only to find when i got home.still split pipe and nothing had been done.
