Yesterday morning from the drivers side, the windows opened no problem but when i came to close them i had to inch them up a bit at a time as they kept stopping. Later on the passenger side works OK but the drivers still struggles, but not as bad as it was, could it be a temperature issue as it was cold when they wouldn't work but not frozen?

Check out the Search Facility Again using "Drivers and Window". There are quite a few posts about problems with the drivers window.

A few of them are.

It sounds like the mechanism in the door needs lubricating.

Try a spray on grease, or WD40 for a quick fix...

I know it sounds daft but dont forget to clean the glass, mine did a similar thing, being slow and as I have lots of large sycamore trees on my drive the sticky stuff secreted by the aphids in the trees had a marked effect on the window performance and the rubber wipe strips, have to clean em off regularly in the summer. Happy motoring.

silicon spray is what i used to make my windows nice and smooth to operate , just spray in to the runners, dead easy.
