On Saturday getting ready to drive the Bongo off the camping deck of the ferry at Venice I could'nt get the roof to retract - big panic! -until I realised the hand break was off (I'm old enough to be forgetfull once in a while!) However got me thinking - how do you retract the roof if the electrics fail ?

Its in the Owners Handbook (and in surprising detail). Roughly, and from memory, they want you to unbolt the actuating motors then lower it carefully (I think it comes down under its own weight at some point) and secure it with rope running through two open door windows. Not expecially elegant but there it is! I keep a rope in the vehicle now along with a photocopy of the instructions........just in case 8)

No probs, but get a copy of the instructions as there is some detail in there that you ought to try and follow I suspect (things like which bolts to undo - they may be allen bolts so you'll need a suitable allen key in your tool kit - I keep my set with my tyre changing toolkit, watching out for the weight of the roof as it comes down etc.) 8)
