hi

just bought one of those band expanders so that i can pick up
something that might be worth tunning in to and have had a quick look
at installing it.The stereo that is in, is a cd player and tape all in one which
is the standard stereo. I have not really tried to hard yet to remove
it but after removing the plastic strips on each side decided to seek help before i start to attack it with screwdrivers and what ever else i can find and ask if there is a easy way of removing the stereo

You need the standard pair of two-pronged U-shaped car radio removal tools.

While you have the original stereo out, bin it and the band expander as well - they are useless.

Buy a decent UK CD/Radio for about fifty quid and fit that instead.
If you buy an ISO adapter then you will not have to chop any wires - it will be plug 'n play.

Although the 'the U-shaped-cut-from-a-wire-coat-hanger' jobs work with many older radios, there are quite a few types - so U shaped ones wont do everything, these days.

Here is a set that has 52 types, although I reckon a wire coathanger suitably bent would do the half dozen or so on the top left, and a pair of screwdrivers many of the others...

This 52 Piece Set includes:

# 2x U Hooks (Ford/VW/Audi/Grundig/Blaupunkt/all DIN applications)

# 4x Keys (VW/Audi/Becker/New Ford/Mercedes/Seat)
# 2x Keys (BMW)
# 1x Hexagon Wrench (BMW/Vauxhall/Opel)
# 2x Keys (Becker New)
# 2x Keys (Skoda New)
# 2x U Hooks (Blaupunkt new)
# 2x Keys (Fiat Brava/Bravo/Marea)
# 2x U Hooks (Vauxhall/Opel)

# 2x Keys (Kenwood III - 2002>)

I agree with Pippin,

picked my bongo up with a band expander, but the stations aren't in the right place....

so radio 2 ahem I mean radio 1 was at 88.1 not 99 or something!
which was just irritating!!

I had a new radio to fit, and a PC2-10-4 from halfords (£14)
and fitted in about 2 minutes....in a layby, on the way home

Best option would be a new pair of floppy ears, idid this once and looked like my best mate Frank sidebottom

To get it out, I used a couple of alan keys, to prong.. the prongs.. then i got pronged
