Every split charge system is different to each other?, a photo may help?

are you sure you dont have the winter pack which has 2 battery connected together by a thick black wire going across the black plastic air intake?

if so this isnt a split charge system, but can be easily converted

Do they work with the keys out of the ignition? or will they work without the keys being in the ignition?

Just make sure it is a split charge system or it will flatten your starting battery as well as the other battery, a photo should help clear this matter  , does or is there a separate fuse box that connects to the black wire or to one of the batteries?

yes its easy, what i did was firstly bought a split charge sytem, off ebay seller Willington, for £60 (thats all the wiring loom and 180 amp relay) takes10 minutes to fit.

When it came i simply took off the terminal off the battery which goes to the passenger side battery, taped up the battery terminal and folded it back on its self and clipped it into the bracket that hold the black wire at the back of the air intake, this gives you the option to stick it on the leisure battery if the starting battery has gone flat.

So then i had my starting battery on the drivers side and the leisure battery on the passenger side, then with the wiring loom that i bought off Willington i simply attached it to the leisure battery with the terminal and then conected the live to the starting battery and thread the remaining wires through to the fuse box in the drivers footwell.

These wires let me run the blinds, cig lighter, internal lights, door mirrors

this is the kit

Your coming up to silverdale arnt you so i will have a look at the weekend, every bongo has 2 fuse boxes under the bonnet :? ,mine now has 3, you may well have a split charge system but you normally have an extra fuse box that powers all the goodies in the van, but if you have a converted bongo they may well be in the back with the zig unit/ electrics
