Any chance of a bit of help with the rear fan...it suddenly stopped working....is there a fuse for it anywhere?

It's the 3rd fuse from the left in the larger fusebox under the bonnet (30A). Also, mine doesn't work unless the front fan is also turned on.

On the earlier Bongos there is a master switch on the lower dash board on the right hand side of the steering column to turn the rear heating fan on or off.

Also check the two ten amp fuses in the pasenger fuse box

Thanks. I'll check the fuses, and if no joy, I fear that the switch itself may be fried, as the little light in the switch failed ages ago.I'll let you know what the outcome is.

Thanks Franco....looked under the bonnet, and there it is.....funnily enough , labelled rear fan. I checked the fuse and it's got continuity, so the problem is elsewhere. It's strange, I was just sitting in the car with the aircon on, and the engine was idling, and the rear fan just stopped...no strange noises, no strange smells. If it's the switch, it's more of a problem than the motor...there's lots of experts here that can take the motor apart, rewind them and get them going for a few bob. Is the louvred panel under the rear heater controls access to the motor?
I'll try looking at the problem further tomorrow, as it's too damned hot today (over 30Deg.C)

Grrrrr - it's about half that here
I'm not sure, but I think you have to remove the interior panel to get at the motor etc.

Have you had a problem with the rear fan in the past?

I seem to recall you having some trouble with it when you still lived in the uk?

How was the problem resolved? I'd look there first

Does the rear fan work if the front blowers are switched on full blast?

If so, it sounds like a resistor problem.

Hi Big Daddy....the problem in the past was what is known technically as "stupidity factor"...i turned the thing off at the dash, and forgot to turn it on again The current problem is that it doesn' want to work at any of the front fan settings, and i toggle the dash switch a few times at each of the front fan speeds. Can I get access to the rear fan through the louvred/ grill type panel under the rear controls...if so, does it just pull off?
I'm just off outside to tinker with the dash switch before I pull the fan apart, as I remember having similar problems with a Volvo switch

I've just taken the switch out, and checked continuity between the terminals when toggling the switch. There is only continuity between 2 & 3 when switched, and no others. This seems wrong to me, but i've no access to a wiring diagram at the moment, but later this year i'll buy a manual, and wiring supplement.
If it's any help, the little light hasn't worked for ages.

We are talking about aircon here? Am i correct?

I recall you saying in the past that some of the roads in bulgaria are pretty much pot holed tracks?

It has occured to me that maybe a stone,or some other form of debris may have catapulted up from the road,striking the rear radiator/matrix, this could cause a leak, the aircon has a pressure sensitve switch which cuts out the activation of the aircon if the pressure is too low... Is this of any relevence?

Failing that, it could simply be the actual switch,or one of the two heater resistors (more likely).

Dreamwarrior and waycar8 are more experienced with this subject than myself,i'm sure they will shed some light...

Thanks Big Daddy,but I doubt that there's a leak, as both units are connected for the purpose of re-gassing, as there is only one gas fill-point under the bonnet...had mine done earlier this year for around £20.00. Here's hoping for a reply from Dream Warrior or Waycar , then.
Yes, the roads are appalling. Tony spent some time, many years ago, working round Europe, the Middle East, & North Africa, and he reckons that the potholes are worse than some of the mortar holes when he lived in the West Bank. Very appropriately, the potholes are known as "doopkies" over here, and as you may know,the 2" mortar the Americans used in Vietnam was known as a "Doop" because of the noise it made when firing.

Hi helen and Tony, only just spotted this thread, have you checked the rear resistor?, if you take off the side panel where the rear motor is, you will see it, held in by 2 screws.

If your front fans work ok on all speeds take the front one out and try it in the rear one, if it starts working properly then you have found the problem.

I'll try that tomorrow. Will the front fan need the resistor in so that it can work, and allow the rear to complete the circuit?
