External Rear Mirror

I put a plaintive call for help on this list on Sept 16th and received some helpful comments. I've now followed the advice and am reporting back.
I immersed the black plastic housing in boiling water for a few minutes, the plastic softened, the glass slipped in NO TROUBLE AT ALL! It has cooled down and is solid and firm. (I guess we are having black plastic soup for dinner this evening.)
The car wash which ripped the glass out of the external mirror and wrecked the antenna was a BP petrol station in Chorlton cum Hardy on theRHS of A5145, Barlow Moor Rd. just before the junction with A5103 Princess Rd which leads to the M60 Manchester Ring Rd.

P.S. Any one want to buy an external rear mirror ready to bolt on to the vehicle!! I'll be putting it on e bay shortly
