I've just cleaned the front aircon intake etc. with antibacterial spray and it now smells great.

But, I don't thing that the rear comes in from the same place, as it still smelled stale...

Where is the air intake for the rear if different please?

I have the same problem Bongomatic. It seemed to have some effect, but not a total cure, when I sprayed stuff in the heater intake. I even tried pulling air backwards with a vacuum cleaner and spraying in through the vents, but could detect much inflow at the rear head-level vents, where the smell seems t come from. On the plus side I find the smell only lasts for a moment or two after switch on before it clears.

If you find the answer, let us all know!

As I've said before, use your aircon regularly and you won't have any smells - unless something has curled up and died in it

Was told by an aircon engineer to switch aircon on for at least 10 minutes every week - even during winter to keep it at its best. Most of his work in the spring was fixing faulty aircon systems in cars that had not been used over the winter months. His motto was -use it or lose it. :)

John,
Point taken! :) I will use it regularly, and am sure the smell will go rapidly.

Nice to have it to demist the windscreen on warm damp mornings, a treat that is new to me.

I was interested where the intake was as an academic point too; adding to the total sum of knowledge...

Mike, if I do find out I'll let you know - shan't be mounting an in depth investigation though!

Cheers
