Long story short -our new Frendee came with no record that the cam belt had ever been changed. So as its done 60,000miles we decided to get it done. We are being quoted £185.

Is that reasonable? (Medway in Kent)

seems a bit steep to me,although i'm up north :D
i would expect to pay no more than£60 plus price of belt if thats all thats being changed, you could try this guy,he is mobile and very reasonable.

Have you pimped your bongo. is the belt gold plated or diamond studded or doe she think you look a mug,( no offence meant). I think that price is well steep, phone for quotes or depending where you got your bongo from can they do it. I would advise anyone who buys a bongo from a rep garage to ask them about any jobs first. Happy motoring.

Leah&john, you were probably quoted a price including the belt and the TENSIONER... The tensioner is aroud the £40 mark, although it is often not neccessary to replace this part unless its faulty.

You can tell if its up to the job by sight and feel.

I'd say £100 for a cambelt change (they supply) with no tensioner, is about the most you would be likely to pay...(unless its a mazda main dealer)

One of the main advertisers on this site (and who sell tensioners and springs) said to me that they don't change the tensioner or spring - they've never seen one fail.
Tensioner replacement is common on newer cars because of the high plastic content (pulleys etc.) but to the best of my knowledge the Bongo pulley is metal

Hi Leah and John,

I have been quoted a similar price as that but the chap we use will only use a certain quality of part (not saying anyone else uses sub standard parts) he told me the type but just being a menial electrician it went right over my head :!:

Cheers Russ
