Engine Replacement - Total Unbelievable DISASTER: Update
Posted: Sat Sep 08, 2007 11:04 pm
Hi Folks
I have an update on the Engine Replacement saga. You will remember that I had a refurbished engine fitted in July. The engine failed to run properly, the engine refurbishers blamed poor installation by my mechanic, my mechanic in turn pointed to a possible pre-existing cylinder-head hairline fracture or headgasket failure as the likely cause of the problem. (You can peep at the gory details by resurrecting my post of August 9th - five or six pages back...)
The short version of the update story is that my Bongo is safely back in my hands, the engine faults have been corrected and it drove 140 miles without incident at motorway speeds this afternoon on my way home from the engine refurbishers.
The longer version would include mention of the intervention of Trading Standards and some unresolved legal, technical and financial issues. Suffice to say that the vehicle was released to me without any attempt to extract payment for the work done BUT I am told I will receive an invoice
for £300ish in the fullness of time. It's inappropriate to elaborate any further just now, I will be keep you informed...
Many thanks for the encouragement and advice. The matter is partly resolved - having the Bongo back in good working order is a major development.
I now have to learn to trust the Bongo again - but not before I fit the low coolant warning kit from Hayden!
