Bongo Fury

I'm told that I could have a problem with my viscous coupling (ouch)...but despite searching and asking for help no one so far can tell me where it is, how many there are or indeed what one looks like....let alone how to service or replace it.

I recon its a mythical beast...can anyone show me otherwise?

What problem's are you experiencing harry,that make you think the V.C. is playing up?

I,m assuming that your bongo is 4wd?

As i understand it,the viscous coupling is the gizmo that gives power (torque?) to the front wheels,if the rear wheels lose traction.

The coupling consists of drums, or plates, that have a thick fluid sandwiched between them,under normal driving conditions,all the wheels are spinning at the same speed,if slippage occurs at one or two of the wheels the drag effect of the fluid in the coupling makes the slipping wheels slow a little as the gripping wheel(s) maintain the steady velocity.

The v.c. will be located in the transfer case.

It does exist - it is inside the lump to which the rear of the front propshaft connects. It is driven by a chain from the transmission, which is also inside a cover. It cost me about £300 to be reconditioned.
