Bongo Fury

Hi.
Can anyone help? My fuel gauge has ceased to work, sometimes it gives a little flicker of life then relapses back to empty. How does it work? Is there any chance that it could be a sensor on the tank that has been displaced?

All the other gauges seem to be working OK so it's not a fuse problem.

Usual problem is a bad earth on the tank itself - loads of postings on this subject - just search for "fuel AND gauge"

By the way, welcome to the madhouse.
When you search, the AND must be in capital letters.

If you can't find it come back, easy to do common problem. Happy motoring.

Thanks for your prompt replies. I've yanked up the carpet now and undone the shiny hatch to reveal a different world beneath, dusty grey and a bit rusty. But I can't see anything that looks like an earth wire. There is an electric connection with 2 pins and that looks quite shiny when removed.
I have taken a photo but I don't know how to load images onto this forum.
Any ideas

I take it you mean between the two rear sets of seats, this is the place. You need to clean t he earth lead, it is the one that leads to the screw in the bodywork, I cleaned mine and drilled another hole, in the floor and ran another wire from it to the top of the tank as a back up using a self tapping screw, no probs since, it is easy, must be cause I did it. Have a go it is so rewarding when it works. Happy motoring.

the white multi plug one wire is live one is earth all i did was use a tester to determine which was which then used a crim connecter on the earth and unscrewed one screw from the top and connected another earth wire via the screw , and it works perfect now

Here is what you did wrong
the link you used was the one in the address bar and what you should have used is the url link along side the photo, just click on that section and it will say copied, then paste that between the img tags and bobs your uncle

Also there are tools on photobucket to reduce the size, thats a good idea as big pics take ages to download with slow connections , about 640/480 max or smaller if possible

Hey thank you all for your help that's John, Dave, Rob and the westonwarrior! I can't believe that you've been so much on my case.
I feel I'm making progress now and will delve a little deeper tomorrow.
