Hold light code - how poorly?

Hi there, my hold light has been flashing too....and wonder if anyone can tell me how poorly my bongo is???
Hold light started flashing when reversing, parked up and light went out once it cooled down. The following day the hold light was not on but it didstart flashing again after about half hours run (very hot day), it went into safety mode (3rd gear), drove it home at 30mph.
Ive read up on forum and have been brave enough to do the fault code finding from the Transmission Control Module and it is reading two fault codes......
62 (Overunning Clutch Solenoid)
and 16? which is not on the fact sheet???

MY QUESTIONS - can anyone help??

1. Does anyone know what code 16 is? And if Bongo Fury Members dont know, is a garage likley to know?
2. As the hold light has gone out and doesnt flash anymore does this mean the problem has gone away?
3. I have only dared take it on short 5min journeys and the hold light is not flashing and it is going through all the gear sequences ok. Dare I take it for an hours drive and see if it happens again??
4. Does it need to go to the doctors?? Can anyone reccomend a autogearbox specialist in the Middlesbrough- Whitby region?

I know this subject has come up a few times but any advice would be appreciated please.....

when mine went wrong origonaly it showed 4 fault codes
16 and 62 were on the list

after a atf and filter change just 62 showedwhen it went wrong and the solonoids were changed and since then no more problems.

In reality auto gearboxes are very dificult for diy so an expert is realy needed

however take it out for a spin and see if its okfor now

Also other things that can affect it is the chip on the back of the speedo if it has been chipped can be a cause, or a connection on the box may be suspect and need cleaning

Firstly Thanks Rob for your reply.....usefull stuff

I have used the bongo over the last week giving its usual run about, the hold light hasnt flashed on again, it hasnt gone into safety gear, everything seems as it should be.....

I was reading somewhere that after so many turns of the ignition the hold light will stop flashing and the fault code will be stored in the "brain".
Now as my hold light hasnt flashed again since, am I right in thinking that the problem has gone, and an I write it off as one of those hot day moments?

Have you checked the condition of your ATF (should be clean and NOT have a smell of burnt toast they say). Might be worth changing it, including cleaning the filter if in doubt? there's advice / discussion on the forum about how to do it. Otherwise, if it reappears, I guess its an autobox specialist visit.

Good luck

Thanks for that Mike, someone else has suggested that, it does look clean, red, but never thought to give it a sniff.....will do that in the morning.
Had the Bongo for just over a year and as far as I know it hasnt been changed when it was serviced, so recon we will change it regardless as well as doing all the other usual oil and filter changes next week....just out of interest do you know off the top of your head how often you should change the aft, my manual is in the bongo, its late and its raining!!!

its recomended that its changed every 24000 miles
but if you have not had it done since you bought it its a good idea to get it done.

As for the light I would wait in your case and see if it happens again, it may not

every 24k miles is what I thought too. Cant decide whether to change mine as it seems clean, smells right, and the Bongo seems to be smooth and changing gear just as it should. But I reckon it is due for changing at some point - maybe put it on my winter servicing list!
