Bongo Fury

Well I have to admit that I've had my Sunday somewhat ruined by reading about the London Low Emission Zone in the forum which will be phased-in between Feb 2008 and 2012.

Checking the TfL site, it confirms my '99 T-Reg Bongo 2WD Diesel camper-conversion from 321Away will not be compliant beyond October 2010. Despite living in Hanwell, W7 and being miles from the congestion charge zone, I am a long way inside the LEZ.

So the only options open to me are to sell well before October 2010 to avoid too much depreciation, or fit pollution abatement equipment.

Before simply deciding to sell up, I thought I would investigate the pollution abatement option.

Can any knowledgeable Bongo-er provide any advice about this equipment? Or a garage which will fit it? Or experience of fitting it?

London, like Japan is trying to reduce the amount of particulates in the air. This sounds drastic but when you consider that people have to wear face masks in highly congested cities and that ther is growing evidence that these particulates are carconogenic, it makes perfect sense to think ahead. Its likely then that Bongos of the future will be mostly petrol driven, perhaps you could buy a petrol Bongo. They are just as ceonomic but cleaner, smoother, quieter and faster. I've converted my V6 to LPG and its currently costing 10p per mile. I think that equates to roughly 50 mpg. the range is 240 miles and if i should run out it switches to petrol without missing a beat. Gas is available evrywhere now. I save £70 per month if I only do 12000 mile per year. The cost of the installation equates £34 per month on a credit card. I save on car tax and insurance and servicing too. I can drive in London without paying a tax on pollution and may get a dispensation on the congestion charge too. It sounds smug but it does make sense.
