Stupid question but
Have you turned on the lights and fog light and looked to see if one of the revering lights is converted to a fog ?

Every time I try to put the light on it blows all the rear light and dash light fuses. Did check that tho.

Sounds like you may have wire shorting out somewhere when you put your light on if your blowing bulbs / fuses.

you probably had a dangly fog light fitted which has been knocked off at some point, the wires are probably still there and touching each other making the fuse blow, get down and check under the bumper on the right hand side to see if anyone has just tucked wires up out of the way

Thats whats confusing me, there's no wires visible
Does this mean there has never been a fog light, in which case how did it pass the MOT. And do I now have to start from scratch? Dont know which is more scarey!

you do have a switch for rear fogs though?
if so they must go somewhere

Its just possible that its slipped through the mot unnoticed... Do both your reverse lights work when reverse is engaged? Its just to be doubly sure the foglight isn't one of them... its weird there is no trace of there ever being a dangly there.

Gonna double check the reversing lights, something is ringing a bell!

Keep us posted, if the reverse light is doubled as a fog, check the bulb has been fitted proprly... its just possible to bend the contacts with the pins on the bulb if the bulb has been forced in some time previously....
That in itself could easily short out...

Right. New fuse just incase, lights on, fog light switch turned on, dash lights and rear lights go off and no fog light! Switch off fog light dash and rear lights come back on. Could that be a short of some kind?

Eh? The rear lights an dash lights come back on when you switch the foglights off ?
Did you try the reverse lights? I mean actually got out and walked around the back to check?
If there is no trace of there ever being a dangly, then the only other conceivable place is to lose a reverse lamp, and place a foggy in the reverse light holder.
Unless the bumper has been replaced, and the bodyshop has tucked the wires away somewhere, and forgot to fit a new light, does the paint look new?
I'm as stumped as you are

DOH!!!! Found it!!!

Took off both rear light clusters and found the 'fog light'! It is actually a painted bulb!

in the reverse light right hand side. No probs with the fitting but when the engine was running did the samething, fog light on lights went off, fog light off
now no rear lights or dash lights come back on! The only way I can see forward is seperating the wires from the fuse box and follow it back. Really not looking forward to it tho

Anyone got any other ideas (or less painful suggestions)
Cheers all again

When you fitted the foglight bulb, did you inspect the lugs that hold the prongs of the bulb on the cluster? and the springy tab thing at the back?
( the bit the round effort at the bottom of the bulb sits on?) excuse the technical talk
If a hamfisted attempt to force in a bulb in the past had damaged the contacts in the bulbholder, its just possible that the + and - 's are touching, causing a short?
Its begining to sound like an auto-electricians job is this
I cant help thinking that the wiring has been bodged somehow, when the original reverse was converted to fog?
Check the colour of the wiring at the back of the foglight switch for clues to the colour and guage of cable used for the conversion, then check the wiring to the rear light cluster for the same colour wires,to look for a fray, or peeling of insulation etc... good luck

DONE AT LAST!!!! Cost me £120 to get it done and MOT'd tho. Fault lies with the last people to touch my beloved......................321 away! They re-reversed (now facing forward) my bench seat and when replacing the runners caught the fog light wire, so.....everytime I selected the fog lights it shorted out the previous mentioned lights. Specialist eh? Ah well, at least we can bugger off this weekend.
