Autogearbox problems

Now then me old muckers!
Had us Bongo for a few months now, never had an auto before!!! I am finding a fault sometimes that resembles a manual clutch slipping! First noticed on holiday in France a couple of months ago, I gave her a boot to overtake a lorry and not a lot happened. She dropped down and the revs came up but there was very little power, the wife near s**t her pants and I wasn't far behind. Is it possible for the auto clutch to slip, don't know much about them other than the clutch is fluid - is that right?
Any thoughts would be muchos appreciated!!

I wouldn't be so quick to blame the auto box - it may be that you are not getting enough power at high rpm to overtake easily. Are there any unusual noises when you kick down the accelerator (e.g. squealing)? It could even be as simple as a clogged fuel or air filter. I'm sure some mechanically inclined bongo forum folk will help out with suggestions...

Hi there,
Thanks for the comments....regards engine noises there aren't any, she sounds great with plenty of revs. Only had her since April and the supplier assured me that all filters had been changed!!!??? She only did it for the second time the otherday only doing it on the hills, the harder I accelerated the gears would change as expected but the speed slowed until I eased back on the accelerator !!!!
Beats me!

as far as i can remember the bongo does not have a clutch so you will not get any slip that way, sorry cant help any other way.
Check your turbo pipes first!

I had this problem before, and thought it was a gearbox problem. However, it turned out to be a loose turbo pipe. Only showed when I needed power in a hurry - normal driving was fine, but giving it some welly to overtake or join from a sliproad gave me lots of revs but not very much power. Gear down changes seemed OK, but up changes seemed to be completely random. The loose pipe seemed to have been acting a bit like a turbo wastegate, but only when the pressure changed quickly.
When the pipe was sorted out, the Bongo seemed to be a little slower in the lower gears, but the power was continuous and strong across the rev range rather than just all being in a small power band. Gear changes went back to how they should be, and overtaking became safe again!

PS: On mine it was easy to find the leak as it was on one of the pipes visible under the passenger seat. Jubilee clip was loose. Look for slight oily marks where any of the turbo pipe joins are.

This sounds to me as if your gear box is changing down to far and maxing out the revs.
It could be just it kicked down at just "that" moment and foot flat on the floor can do that Iv'e done it
or
It could be a sensor playing up which is causing it to go into too low a gear but I doubt it.
I would suggest take it out and test it by putting your foot flat down at different times on hills/flat different speeds etc and see if its just getting used to the auto or a real problem.
If you feel its a real problem
It may be worth returning it to the dealer if you still have warrenty

before you start to panic I'd check the small mesh inline fuel filter under the banjo bolt drivers side, right hand side of engine you'll need tweezers or long nose pliers to get it and the spring it sits under out, it becomes clogged very easily as the mesh is very fine... been numerous posts on here before regarding it, there's even pictures somewhere... and if that doesn't work change your AT fluid and clean the filter and the magnet.... plenty of info on the site regarding this also...
