Bongo Fury

Hi Guys,
I need to clarify what exactly is involved in dye-testing the Bongo engine coolant system to detect the presence of exhaust gases - an indicator of cylinder head or head gasket problems.

My local garages seem uncertain of procedures. I need to know how it works so that I can find a competent garage who wont fob me off with a pressure test.

i think what happens is the air that’s at the top of the haeder tank is drawn into a turkey baster-type device thats fitted with a valve of sometype, what passes through a dye that changes colour if theres exhaust gases present.

it is this type of thing that is used to test for exhaust gases in coolant i think.

Thats' exactly what my mate used approx 1 month ago.
Discolours the dye on detection of CO gas.
Thought it was the gasket - white smoke on start-up
& using water, but turned out to be cracked & warped head!
600quid later - its' all sorted - hope yours is cheaper.

Thanks for the info. Cheeky bugger wanted me to pay £50 at my local garage for him to do the test. With the help of Paul's post, bought the kit for £29. Thanks!

prb007: I'll post a detailed explanation of where I'm at with overheating issues when I resolve a couple of difficulties. It may make your hair curl.
