Bongo Fury

Anyone help.I have developed a whining noise which appears to be coming from the rear.It happens at both low and high speed and changes pitch according to my speed.Been told poss wheel bearing/rear diff.Booked in garage for thurs,but would appreciate any help that may prepare me for bad news.
