Heater fan & Air Con

Hope you someone can help! I have just got a Ford Freda 1996 SGL3F
The front heater fan was not working so following the very good instruction from the fact sheets ( thanks to Paul Meeghan ) I fitted a new fan & repaired the resistor. The fan now works on all 4 speeds. The problem is with the air con, it works when the fan is on 1 (in the front & the back) but as soon as I turn it to 2,3 or 4 it stops working in the back completely(fan & air con) with just the fan in the front going (not the air con ).
The small light on the air con switch also goes out

Nobby. Did you 'repair' or replace the resistor? Sounds v odd, like the wiring connections are now incorrect. If replaced resistor, is it the right type for your model? The aircon is clearly working as a piece of machinery. I believe the fan has to be on position 1 or more for it to work. Also - but you know this - there is a master switch on the dash to control the rear unit on/off

I dont really know about this stuff but hopefully someone on BF will have an idea.

Good luck

Mike,
I repaired the resistor simple job, just resoldered the 5 conetions. The old fan had locked up this would have over heated the resistor & melted the solder. The air con had the same problem before I did this & the rear master switch works okay.

Hmmm. You sound confident with the work you've done, cant think what else to suggest. Is it worth prodding round with a multimeter to see what current / voltage is where, when switch set to different positions?

Where's the BF Cavalry - you need 'em right now!

All sorted, I did not do a good job on the soldering, one of the 5 tads came apart. I have now done the job properly and all is well.

thanks Mike for your input
