Bongo Fury

Can anybody please help me. I have tried to carry out my own service and oil change. But for some reason I can not engage reverse. Also I can not push my Bongo backwards even when it is in neutral. The van is stuck across my dads drive and stuck in a one way drive so I can't even drive forwards and turn around in front of me.
Urgent please can any body give me a clue.

Is it an automatic? If so, does the gear lever select all the other gears OK (including P)?

Yes, it drives forward. i have undone a cover underneath which I thought was the auto gear box oil. when I undid it a number of springs fell out as well as the gear box oil. I attempted to put these back in as they came out but I am not sure if this might be the problem.

Sounds likely that that is indeed your problem - you don't need to completely remove the cover to drain the oil.
I have never worked on the gearbox, but would guess that the springs are part of the gear selection system. Hopefully one of the experienced mechanical people will reply before too long.

It's almost certainly the problem BB.......could you post a pic of what you dismantled?

I think I have found it, having thought that the housing with 4x 10mm bolts was the filter housing I removed it and it looks like it is the hydraulic selector. In my haste to put it back together I think I may have missaligned it. I removed it again today and the plunger seemed to engage and the lock on the wheels seemed to release. I couldn't prove it as I have the van on ramps and chocks. Having removed the assembly again it appears that I may need to replace one of the machined components, PART No 19-381A of the 2WD auto gear box http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/1R24561.gif on the drawing that maxheadroom linked me to (Great Thanks) due to there being a crack in the casting.

Question any ideas where I might be able to source this part as I have no idea of the name or where to get it from.

Number 19 - 361 locates onto the rear band which would affect reverse gear drive - it requires to locate exactly onto the band (I haven't worked on the Bongo/Nissan box but the Borg Warners have a similar setup).

Be very careful about getting dirt into the system and if you need to use anything to help locate components use petrolium jelly (vaseline is ideal) not any mineral grease.

Has 381A cracked because 361 was misaligned?

Hi, I think that my son hastely assembled the selector assembly and may have bolted it up missaligned. The Gearbox and all other components seem ok. I have attached photo's of 381A the Gasket is damaged but I will be able to make a new one for him.

I can't warn you enough BB to avoid ANY fluff or thread from your rags to get onto the valves/springs etc. or they will seize. The clearances in there are microscopic! Compressed air should be used on the valves and a lint free cloth if you have to use any cloth at all.
