Demister question

I don't seem to get any air onto the screen. I have diesel Bongo with climate control and I can't work out how the unit blows air onto the windscreen. The fan works OK and air blows through the vents, it's just that the air is never directed onto the screen regardless of the mode settings. Any ideas where I start looking?

I also noticed that the flap that controls the air intake (air from outside the van or air recirculated within the system) is hanging vertically in the housing. It looks as if there should be a cable attached to an external axle which pokes out of the side of the housing, but all I have is a threaded hole in the axle where (I assume) something attaches. Could the problems be related?

All ideas gratefully received!

Seems like the director flap is broken to me, get someone to work the controls while you watch the flap and see if it moves, what happens when you pree the windscree demister button on the central consol, does air then blast onto the screen as it should or is it coming from another vent, if so then it is a fair bet the flap is knackered, depending on how long you have had it and has it ever worked, ask the garage where you bought it to have a look, if not is there anyone near you with a bongo that you can compare. Good luck happy motoring.

Cheers David - the problem is, I think at least one cable is missing. What I need is for somebody with a working Bongo to confirm just what I am looking for! Is the mechanism for changing the direction of the air behind the Aircon unit in the front of the van or should I be looking elsewhere? ':?'

Have a look by the drivers left foot. You will see a metal rod that operates the flaps, this often slips out of its plastic control arm.

Thanks for all the responses. Now I know where I'm looking, I'm sure I can fix it! (Love the bit about the tiddiliwink BTW!)

Well done Haydn, I found the wire link and reattached. It keeps popping out so a little bending is in order.......

Can anyone confirm the location of the other cable (the air intake flap)? Where does that go to?

Thanks all
