G'day!

I had a slow puncture on the weekend and managed to get to Kwik Fit Camarthen. They did not have the tyres I needed for the front nor able to repair however the bloke there sugested I think about looking at 4 ply or 6 ply tyres. Due to the weight of the van + I would probably get more mileage out of them.

Has anybody looked at these options or got any advice?

Cheers

You should be using reinforced tyres anyway with a load rating of around 97 to 100.

You need something like
CONTINENTAL CT VANCO CONT 2 100T R/F 215/65TR15 T
CONTINENTAL CT VANCO CONT 2 97T R/F 195/70TR15 T

I think Kwik save have 25% off at the moment if you buy four Continental tyres.

Blimey! I had the same problem this weekend, my post is further down the message board. On the advice I got I have ordered Goodyear GT-2 from http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk.

New tyres.

I have been offered from:

http://www.blackcircles.com/

195/70/15/ 104 Commercial 8 ply for about £60.

Is this going overboard or just that bit safer?

104 means that this tyre can carry a load of 900 kg, so if you fitted these all round then the van can safely carry a load of 3200 kg, the van itself is around 1750 kg so you would have to pack the van with really heavy stuff to overload the tyres.

Don't forget the speed rating, R= 106 mph S= 113mph, and T= 118

Don't forget that the front and rear are different size tyres but they are available in Goodyear GT2.

As for £60.00 per tyre, this is about right if fitted and balanced with new valves. My Continentals were £258.00 fully fitted balanced and new valves.

I always think that my tyres are my contact with the road, so make sure they are correct.

I use Continental Vanco tyres because in an independent test of tyre performance on motorhomes it came out ahead of the competition, in some respects way ahead of the competition.

Thanks - Looked at the Continentals

The Tyres I have at the moment are speed rated H (so 130mph), the Continentals are rated T (118 mph).

Is this safe & won't invalidate the insurance?

I think it's safe to say that you won't exceed 118mph in your Bongo
