My speedo used be erratic and the hold light flash, it did it randomly and not has the engine reached correct running temperature. Our speedo was chipped, we have now a genuine M.P.H. mazda speedo, So far running fine

I wonder if your speedo is chipped, could be the reason for problem

It could be the speed sensor (generator pulse part No. WL0120H10B) is defective, it was in my case and there are earlier posts on this. Cost around £50 iirc

Sounds very much like what happened to mine and this was the cure.

When the hold light flashes, the autobox is in default mode and will not hold or go into 4th gear. The reason is that the gearbox receives signals from the speed generator and when it doesnt get them it goes into default mode.

This happened to us last week, I know it sounds stupid but after initial panic we dicovered that removing my husbands phone charger from the cigarette lighter socket cured the problem. It must have been the charger, as the gps works fine in the same socket.

Check the earthing under the driver's seat. This happened to me after a glow plug change and I discovered that I had not tightened up all of the nuts I had undone to get to the glow plugs. Mine would change gear without warning too!

hI, THIS MAY HELP. a short while ago i had th ABS light coming on kicking in the ABS itself, posted the question on our fab site and was given the answer that it may be the connections at the back of the speedo duly took of speedo pod and pulled out the connectors gave all a wipe over and put back together and HEY PRESTO all ok. worth a try
Cheers Paul

Hold light flashing - This happened to me today!
I had fitted a 626 MPH speedo ( £10 from a scrappie) yesterday and when i took it out for a good run the 'hold' light started flashing at speed and would not go off even when I decelerated .The 'hold 'button on the shift stick would not operate. I stopped the car ,popped it into park and when i started the vehicle up again it was OK . As it accelerated beyond 30/40 -same again .
Took it home and removed the speedo Unplugged the electrical connectors, gently tightened the 3 screws on the back of the speedo and cleaned the connectors. I then put it back together again and hurrah! , no flashing light at any speed and the hold system now works fine .
Thanks for the tip Nbs !!
