Bongo Fury

hi, i am a new bongo owner and i am thinking of fitting a split charging system to her, can anyone out there in bongo land recomend somewhere to purchase the relay and wiring for this purpose, i have looked on ebay and come away totally confused as there are so many sellers claiming theres is the best & prices being as high as £59 + p&p, please help, many thanks ,LEE, ( kent )

We've all been following an idiots guide put together by BF member corblimey for fitting a split charge (voltage sensing) relay to our leisure batteries and have been very happy with the result (dead easy - like you I get confused by amount of stuff available, which is right etc.). Try a search on BF for a thread on it or PM me your meail address, as I made a copy as an MS Word doc and can send that to you. In addtion, ebay vendor willinton (a Bongo owner) does a leisure battery tray that will take a Numax 110Ah (largest possible) battery for the Bongo, and he is now offering a wiring kit too, which a BF user reported recently was excellent.

Hi Lee - As with many things the more you are prepared to do yourself, the cheaper it becomes. As far as the split charging kits go, most caravan shops sell similar, and you get a £2 relay, a bunch of wire and a few scotch locks. Price is usually around £15. The high amp VSR offered by Willinton certainly are good value for money if you intend producing a high charge rate leisure battery set up.
The one you quoted at £59 is probably mine, but it is not really a kit of parts as it is a fully assembled loom, made the correct size to fit in a bongo and with instructions that relate to a bongo. It also includes a feed into the fusebox to run your blinds, radio and lights from the leisure battery. If bought sensibly then you could put together the parts for something similar for under £40.
If you are reasonably competent, then do as mike suggests and follow the guidelines given by Corblimey and you can produce a decent system to your exact requirements.
