Hello....I have just purchaed a roof mounted DVD TV. psp connectable Pc singing all dancing...10.4 inch screen...
10.4" roof car DVD MP4 DIVX TV VGA TFT USB SD Player Item number: 200111974211 on ebay....on screen price on ebay is £139 plus £59 p&p..... iwas cheaky enough to ask for wireless headphones and yes he gave them to me for nothing... 8) dont ask you dont get right!!

make an offer as i did was £105 plus P&P and insurance..all in for £160.....took three weeks to come..not the sellers fault it was TNT..rubbish service, had some right hassle getting it...I would try and go in lower at around £80 - £90...plus P&P..you never know...Let me know if any of you get one cheaper than i did...
because its from china although it came with english instructions its been done by the chinese bloke...not much help with installation....

Basically i would like to fit this machine to the small hatchet on the roof inside the van because i remember someone on this site saying he did it too...hence you can leave the access panel open when the roof is down to keep away from theives...a great idea i thought because this particular player i can change the direction up and down of the picture...hence watch it down stairs in the normal postion or have the access panel open so when your upstairs all you have to do is press the button and your kids can watch it up stairs.....

heres the problem.....all the bloody wires....2 video out puts...(# im guessing one is for aplay station and the other to plug in another monitor???) 2 audio outputs,( one im pretty sure i can link up to my stereo to have surround sound, the other im guessing is for an amplifier only???)
now because im mounting it on the small access panel i have the burden of if you want to open the full upperbed ( to stand up) you would have to unplug the wires every time when you want to get into bed upstairs so to speak...
As i am converting this van and then selling once completed i wanted to know peeps opinions on this and to help me understand the wiring aspect of the job? thinking of just wiring up the main power wires and just hooking up the audio for the surround speakers and obviously the ariel for t.v...
any ideas? didnt really want to put it between the front seats because of the easy target to thieves....would you rather unplug wires every time you want to get upstairs or just mount it easily in the front?

anyone done this as i am at a stand still with this one at present!!!

Oh almost forgot...if you look at the ariel on the package will this be enough to pick up english T.V channels? The ebay dvd player gives instructions on frequencies etc but i havent got a clue wether it will pick up english channels with the small ariel given!!!

Not really! - I would have thought that mounting it on the hatch would be more trouble than it's worth - trailing wires everywhere and prone to damage from passing heads, plus, how would you sleep in the roof without removing it every time?

Not sure what you describe works. If I understand it correctly you want to attach the screen to the 'roof access door'. So when you are downstairs you can flip the screen down and when you are away from the van you can fold the door back on itself (after lifting the roof) hiding the screen from view.
So far this works although may be a bit cumbersome. What I cant get my head around is the statement
'all you have to do is press the button and your kids can watch it up stairs..... '

How does that work ? for the screen to be 'upstairs' the door has to be open, if it's open what do you sit on?

Sorry you have lost me with that.

Good luck anyway.

I thought about mounting on the roof access panel but decided it wasn't worth it for me. A lot of the time we would be watching with the whole roof and panel up in which case you wouldn't be able to see it!

Mine is mounted in the front cabin above the centre console and is fairly discrete - you'd really have to make a point of looking up to see it. Not quite as big as yours though.

I personally don't like any type of install where you have to disconnect cables to work around it. Especially with an item like this which is designed to be permanent. If you mount in the front cabin, it's easier for routing all of it's connections (forward across headlining then across the windscreen, down the pillar and you're under the dash). If you decide watching upstairs is really something you want to do, maybe you could add a cheap second screen to go in the roof?

Regarding receiving UK channels, it's a good idea to connect it all up and test everything before you put it in the van. Nothing more frustrating than finding out it doesn't do what you want or even worse doesn't work at all, after all the effort of fitting.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hi..if the dvd is mounted to the small hatch so you are able to watch in the down stairs seating area.with cable connections just poking through the head lining in between the rear air vents and the trim of the main hatch...then unplug them and lift the small hatch only ; ( as andy describes the machine would be on the top level so the elevating roof can be lowered and be trapped between the roof and main access panel to detour thieves) with the small hatch open and the elevating roof open the machine is more to the rear of the van once you open the dvd player the picture on the machine can be flipped over so you can watch it in the upstairs compartment.....the only issues with that is the small hatch will be open whilst you are upstairs watching it and i would have to run a matching set of cables at the rear of the van up there to plug in.....
you get my idea??? 8)

someone on this site had the idea previously..i would love to know who it was to see if he went ahead with the idea..

If i was keeping this vehicle i would definatly have this option but as i will be selling the vehicle once conversion is finished i wanted a few feedbacks if YOU would consider this in your van!!!!

I think with the feedback so far altough i have no problems with fitting it to the small hatch just a few extra cables running to the PMS unit.
everything considered i think the roof lining between the front seats would be the best option... especially as the machine has a option to add another screen to it so you could probably run ONE cable to the upper compartment to watch..
