another mot question

if a rear seat is not secured properly, will it fail the mot?

my bench seat does not secure to any runners and is only held down by a home made bracket,

the runners were removed in the first conversion it had, but when i reconverted it the runners were not present.

will this fail the mot? or should i just take it out before the mot and replace after?

As long as you dont have any seat belts in the back you should be OK. The rear seats in a motorcaravan do not have to have seatbelts and so the tester is unlikely to be interested in how the seat is fixed.

If it looks insecure then it should fail. If it isn't obviously insecure then it will pass. They are more interested in seatbelts for the test.

Why not fix them in as they should be??? Or take them out and throw them away. Do not use them if they are not fixed in properly or they will fly past your ears one day if you have to stop suddenly. Just hope nobody is sitting in them at the time.

i dont have the runners, and they are only fixed in with a homemade bracket, i dont use the bongo for passengers.

was only wondering if the security of the seat is an issue with the mot

If you don't use your Bongo for passengers what do you need seats for then? :?

Just had van waxoiled, and asked my garage, about the legality of the seat and the mot.

the answer I got was, "that it is fine and not subject to MOT if it is side or rear facing, however if it is front facing then it is subject to the normal MOT rules governing rear seats"

hope that helps anyone else who was wondering the legality of rear seats.
