Bongo Fury

Hi gang,
The brakes on my Bongo are causing concern to my mechanic. He noticed that although they worked well enough, keeping pressure on the brake pedal caused the pedal to keep on travelling nearly to the floor. A replacement master cylinder seems to have fixed that problem (a used item but from a respectable source). The brakes, having been bled for a long time still seemed soggy.
So my question is, are your brakes solid or a bit soggy?
The amount of brake fluid he put through would have replaced the original stuff and he has a manual which he referred to as far as I know.
There are no leaks visible and no drop in brake fluid level is apparent.
I hope that covers most of the queries that some might have, overr to you.

hi timtum my brakes are sound they pull up ok no travel in pedal , handbrake needs adjusting slightly though

Hi timtum, My brakes are pants. just serviced each caliper,plenty of vacuum at the servo. but found one of the pistons sticking in the mastercylinder. where did you get your mastercylinder?

I got the used mastercylinder at Bongobits. 01752 250777. They are very helpful.
There is a problem with mastercylinders generally when they get old. The seals get mucked up when pumping the brakes because the seals are operating outside their normal travel, this would be OK with a newer mastercylinder but in a well used one, there is a ridge formed at the normal limit of travel and when this is crossed by the pumping action, the seal can get graunched.
This thread went off topic pretty quickly, hey ho, but I would still like to hear from anyone who doesn't have brakes like a switch which come in with a tiny movement of the brake pedal and are solid when applied. My braking is effective but if it is not totally right, I will sort it, trouble is, what to do next.
My mechanic is Bongo friendly and very experienced so although it looks like air in the system, he would have sorted that out unless there is a Mazda trick to replacing it like the coolant routine.

PS they are finding the price of a new one for me since the reclaimed one hasn't totally fixed the problem.
