when was the last time someone told you " now you've jinxed it " ?

this is my story.
the other night i browsed some topics about speedo accuracies etc.
nothing specific but following the tyre debates i'd already been reading.
i didn't have a tyre or speedo problem but that's the beauty of the forum,
or not when it's midnight and you have to be up early.
anyway, today ,driving the bongo to pick up my daughter from nursery
i mentioned to my wife about speedo problems other members had been having. she was strangely uninterested!
anyone guessed where this is going?
well, we stopped at nursery, bongo behaving faultlessly as it has since day one, collected our daughter then started the engine, drove away then noticed our speed. 0mph on the dual carriageway.
worse however was the bongoists most dreaded fear:

THE FLASHING HOLD LIGHT

apart from speedo not working everything else was perfect.
we stopped at a shop on the way back, bought some dinner then started
her up again.
no hold light , speedo working, no probs all the way home.

so either there's a problem waiting ( any ideas ? ) or
the universe / god / somebody is pulling my leg.

Common problem, especially if you have had a kmh-mph electronic converter fitted.

Loose connections on rear of speedo.

Many, many posts with info already on forum.

thanks pippin.
i thought it might be that having read other posts.
but to happen for the first time immediately after
the only time i'd ever raised the subject just seems too coincidental!
there must be a ' higher power ' with a sense of humour.

Same problem Skater.

Doesnt get any better either. Eventually you'll start, soddit no speedo, stop, switch off, restart as a ritual every other start until it drives you mad.

Checked all the speedo chip connections, as many earth points as poss cleaned up,cleaned up the gearbox plugs with elec cleaner.

Eventually asked dealer to put another chip in. Problem solved----I think!
Dealer fits loads to imports and did say he had a few duff ones in 2005.
Tooooooooooooodle pip
Ain't Devon nice

Yeh mine does that every so often just give the pl;astic screen infront of the speedo a tap with yoknuckle and the speedo needle springs back to life again
