Bongo Fury

So... has anyone with the longer endstops chopped them down a bit?

On our new bongo (older than the old bongo buy about 800) has the longer endstops and it's very very annoying... but before I get the hacksaw out I thought I should ask about and see if anyone had done it and found there were other repercusions - there must be a reason that mazda did it.

I can only think that the bongo we have has the "nicer" softer trim and maybe they put softer springs on for "comfort" and then found that it was all over the place so they put these huge stops on to limit it...

This is interesting phedders. We have a chap just asking about his Bonking Bongo on another thread, and we've had earlier threads worrying about these things falling off and getting lost (amazingly I found mine sitting on the bodywork when I had mine on axle stands to to the drop links etc.). Are you saying these blocks (I assume there is one each side though I havent bothered checking on mine) can cause some Bongos to behave over bumps as though their suspension has grounded (as the end stop gets hit). If so, could this be of any significance when a Bongo is caught bonking.

...a case of bump and grind maybe?

There is certainly a difference - my old bongo rairly bonked - this one has a regularly rear end bonk going on.

Yeah these things are a pain but very necessary unfortunately, not only that but should they come adrift as mine did on my space cruiser they are an m o t failure and one hell of a potch getting back on, to do it properly you have to remove the spring etc. I found with a great deal of fiddling I managed to stick em back up and they stayed put until I sold the vehicle a couple of years later. The longer ones must be there for a good reason and I would do as much research as poss as to why before I would remove or cut them down. Good luck whatever though. Happy motoring.
