Tyre Pressures

Hello one and all :D Well it finally happened, we picked up our Bongo from the dealer last week and we are thrilled with it (the dealer was great too). We spent nearly £1k over our budget but it really is a nice one with a high spec interior (unconverted) and generally very nice. Also, we are fully paid up members of Bongofury - a bargain for the info available - We go away this weekend and we're reeeeally excited, hopefully be able to post some pics on our return. One quick question which has probably been done to death but I could not find in my quick search.....what tyre pressures are good for such a heavy vehicle? Mine look a bit under pressure to be honest. It has Bridgestone 215/65 R15 96H on all wheels if this helps. Cheers!!! :D

Welcome to the mad world of Bongoism Quinkster. There should be a label on the inside of the driver's door pillar that lists tyre sizes and pressures.

Welcome to the madhouse - I have 205/65 all round and use 34psi front and rear - did have 32 at the front, but it feels better with 34, and doesn't look so flat.

215s all round, again 34 at the front, for the rear, 34 normally, but up to 36 on a run with a load on.

Yes Mike it's Pete and Moonie/ the Who doing Woodstock - they don't make 'em like that anymore

Thanks for the tyre advice everyone - I hope the weather holds out for a good bank holiday Bongo-ing for everyone! :D

They sure dont (make 'em like that any more). On the tyre front, I had the trailer on the back a couple of weeks ago. I dont think the noseweight was excessive (I could lift it fine) but the tyres looked a bit squat with 34psi in them. So I put them up to nearer 38-40psi by eyeballing them. I've not let them back down to 34psi.

Have I done a very naughty thing?

PS - ...mind you, I had the great privilege of working with the guy on the left in this pic ('scuse large pic!). John McCoy, a rock legend amongst rock legends. They dont make them like him any more either

Yes ANORAK TIME!!!
Check the sticker inside the driver door, check it against what size tyres you have on,AND -WAIT FOR IT !!
To convert Kilopascals(kPa) into Pounds-force per square inch(psi) multiply the kPa by 0.145
(I'd use a Calculator  )
Mine worked out at 34.8 and anything .5 and above gets rounded up
35 front and rear for me

AND THE ANORAK COMES OFF!!

Aren't the tyre pressures quoted on the door panel for the tyres that the bongo leaves the factory with when new?

36 - 38 p.s.i. sounds more like it... especially at this time of year.

Mike he looks familiar but without cheating and Googling Mr McCoy, I haven't a clue who he is........I cheated and Googled him - I remember Gillan! I should know really as a bass 'player' myself

On the tyre front - I found the label on the inside of the drivers door...still glad I asked the question as its all in bar and silly kilo-newton thingys  Thanks again!

if you take a look at air machines at garages/supermarkets Quinkster, most of them now have the option of changing the reading to bar, from p.s.i.
After you have put the air in to the desired pressure, remove the nozzle from the tyre valve, then press the button back to p.s.i. then just hold the nozzle back onto the tyre to get the p.s.i reading.

According to the label on my door pillar my tyre pressures should be 180kPa on the front and 240 kPa on the rear, which I have converted to 26psi and 35psi respectively. So why is front 32 and rear 34 recommended? And why are all of you running at even greater pressure? Am I missing something?
