Engine noise

Hi Guys my Bongo has a rattle/knock from the engine.
When started in the morning from cold runs and sounds normal after about 10mins I get this noise at idle but cant pin point what component is at fault.
The noise goes away when I turn the steering IE putting the engine under load but comes back on releasing the steering wheel, the oil and filter have been changed and the oil that I removed was very clean (not sludgy).
This noise has been in my Bongo for about a year and I have done 6,000 miles and it has not got any worse but would like to get it sorted more so for the annoyance factor. Thanks in advance :)

Could be the power steering pump BP - disconnect the vee belt and see if it's still there.

Thanks dandywarhol but unfortunately its not the PAS pump as I removed the vacuum pump from the engine and removed the drive gear from it then refitted it thus it would not drive nor would the PAS pump but noise was still there.

Is there anyone out there that has done a front end engine strip on there Bongo that would have info on what other drive gear is behind the front crank cover.

I've only got/had one and it doesn't make the noise you describe!

Mine progressivly got worse and sounded a bit like you describe until I recently had the air filter changed as part of the annual service....smoot as silk & quiet now...could be coincidence?

good luck
