Sony car audio - wiring advice please

Another little query while I have my Bongo head on.
Having purchased the very nice looking Sony CDXGT410, I have run up against some difficulty trying to install it.
I can see that there are some really helpful tips on the forum for installing this specific unit, but would somebody be kind enough to give me a real idiot’s guide on an actual successful installation. The manual seems to suggest a variety of alternative set-ups, so knowing which Bongo cable is which is not quite enough.
What I really need to know is which cable from the Bongo connects to which cable on the unit. I think I’ve worked out the speakers.
Also, do I need to disconnect the battery in advance?
Many thanks.

You may well need a Mazda adaptor harness, to place between the Bongo wiring and the unit loom, if the plug on the end of your Bongo lead doesn't fit the socket on the new radio loom - speakers also go through this loom.
Somebody may well be able to tell you which wire is which if you want to wire it up yourself.

Thanks for the help. The Mazda to ISO adaptor sounds the best bet, but I've already had a trip to Halfords, and the assiatnt didn't seem to think that they sold anything that would connect to the Bongo plug. I'll check it out when I get home as there is a visual on the Halfords website. Thanks again.

The easiest way is to use the Mazda to ISO adaptor, part number PC2-10-4 from Halfords, about £13 ish, this fits the Bongo plugs in one end and plugs into the rear of the Sony unit at the other.
MotorWorld also do the adapter and it's the same model number as the Halfords one.
It took a matter of minutes to connect.
The stereo makes the speakers come to life compared to the original unit.
Hopes this helps.

The adaptor from e-Bay arrived double quick, unfortunately, it hasn't helped. My current set-up has been messed about with I think, and so this is what I have. First, coming out of the Bongo, these two connectors (the lower one appears to be redundant):
the top one was plugged into this connector
which terminated with this connector
(here it is again, with one of the other plugs to give an idea of size)
which is the one that plugs into my existing unit. Ideally, I guess I'd like something to adapt from this to my new unit, but not sure whether I'd be able to find anything.
Otherwise, anyone have any advice on rewiring?
HELP!

All your pictures show "image not available" on my computer, so can't help. Is it just mine or can nobody see them?

That's odd, because they showed up fine when I previewed them. "I'll be back..."

Hi Hiddenmission. My wiring had also been 'messed about with' but have successfully installed the GT410 unit. Have the Mazda loom connectors been got rid of altogether? If so you just need to match the appropriate cables from the Sony connector to those in the Bongo's wiring and connect them together - I used the crimped bullet connectors you can buy from any auto shop. Sounds difficult but isn't really. Look at the wiring diagrams for the Sony and the fact sheet on Bongo Fury and it'll make sense.
If you get stuck I can pull my unit out and take a piccie of the wiring for you to copy.

Thanks for your offer. I had an initial look at the factsheet and the Sony wiring diagram, and am still a bit puzzled - there seem to be a variety of options to choose from, and I'm not a great electrician.
I'm not sure if I have the original loom connectors. The Mazda to ISO adaptor wouldn't connect into the system any way I tried it, so I suspect not.
Grateful for any clues at which wire connects with which. Many thanks.
