I am very soon to set off on my Gt Britain coastal trip

, however just discovered that my rear 12 volt thingy does not now work

. Yes I have tried all the fuses by drivers side...all ok/no breaks. This is all new equipment/leisure battery etc and I am stuck as to what it could be....HELP PLEASE.

I believe it will normally only work with the ignition on. If you have had a conversion done, it may not have been modified. If it doesn't work with the ignition on, you may have a broken wire. The wiring is quite low power and can be overloaded easily.

I got a 3 socket cig lighter from Halfords with strong stick on tape backing, and I stuck it to the rear of the centre console. I chopped off the plug, extended the wiring, ran it through a grommet behind the (removable) glovebox and connected it direct to the leisure battery (including a 10amp inline mini spade fuse/holder from Halfords - ideally I shoud have included an isolating switch so the light on the 3-way socket does not continue to draw its miniscule current). V quick to do and will get me by for now (maybe forever!).
Have you bought a 12v electric shower from Maplins. The Dagos and JVC put me ont one. £19.99. It arrived a day after ordering and works beautifully. Highly recommendedfor your trip!!!
Have a good time

Just went to try this....still not working..so hopefully only a 'wire' as you've said. I have just had my bongo to the garage today and they said the socket had power to it; but were not auto electricians etc. For interest.... just had; aircon flush/service etc+ engine flush [whatever that is for] oil change and new filter = 1x hors labour = £140.20 inc vat !! Seemed a bit steep to me. Any thoughts on this ?? Will take bongo to MCC tomorrow re the elecs check.
Many thanks for your input.[/quote]

Thanks for the idea...but I'm no electrician and have spent enough for now !! Like the idea of a shower tho'...how much water [ish] is needed on board to do one shower ? I only have a 12 litre fresh water bottle !!
Mike

I would say that is pretty good value - Kwik Fit charge £45 just for the aircon service, so £95 for 7 litres of oil, filter, labour and VAT is a bargain.

Thanks for that John...I feel reassured that I have not been overcharged now !

agree with franco. Hard to imagine it being any cheaper really.
I tested my shower and it gave 3 mins for half a bucket of water (or thereabouts - it was a largish bucket). The way I look at it, as long as I'm somewhere where there is water (which cant be too hard - it doesnt have to be drinking water) every 2-3 days minimum, then I can keep reasonably clean. And I dont need to divert to anywhere just to have a wash. A shower head makes washing and rinsing off soap (or salt water, or mud etc. etc.) so much easier too. Its gotta be good.
I'd invite you to share my shower with me, but I think thats probably a bad idea all round
Have a good trip - I envy you.

Incidentally yorkshirelass, wiring in teh 3xlighter socket thing is v v easy. I'm no leccy either. The only bit that needs to be got right is working out which lead is +ve and which -ve. I think I'm right in saying that the centre pin on the (male) cig. plug is +ve, which makes the base of the cig. socket +ve too. As log as you know which wire is coming from those and connect it to the +ve on the battery, you cant go wrong. Oh, and ALWAYS put a fuseholder and fuse in the circuit. Do you have a friend who might help for a for beers? It is a doddle and took me about 30 mins, and it would solve your problem and more.

Hi Mike, Shower idea does sound good...however I've no awning !!!....would I be brave enough to shower under the tailgate in a cossie ???????? On the leccy matter...my son has tried to fix the problem[gas engineer +some leccy skills] and it appeared to fix the problem....however..NOW have other probs which are worrying me silly. Will post these on the site in the hope that someone knows what it could be.
Thanks again for your input Mike
Cheers

Am I correct in assuming the electric shower is only an electric water pump connected to a shower head and it does NOT heat the water? I assume you would have to put warm water in the bucket if you wanted a warm shower and the shower unit just pumps the water out of the bucket and if the water was cold then you would get a COLD shower

When we had our tent and then a small three birth van I bought a solar shower which is basically a water bag with foil which hangs in the sun and has a shower nozzle on the bottom, boy did it get hot, absolutely brilliant it was and cost about £15.00 from a camping store, well worth getting if seen if only for a quick wash. Sold it when we bought our all singing and dancing lunar clubman 460/4 van. What a van that was, toilet, shower cubicle, fridge freezer, full central heating, when we put it up for sale the first people to view it gave us the asking price no quibble. Ah happy days, what a comedown to a flat top bongo. Happy motoring.
