Wire that CLOCK

This is my way of wireing up a BMW clock/cubby unit to fill that space in your dash. Many of these clocks come without the little plug with the 3 wires attached. Photo 1. shows the way I cut away a bit of the plastic case to reveal the 3 connector pins, this is done with a dremmel type hand drill. Photo 2. The 3 new wires are soldered carefully to the pins.
Photo 3. Silicone putty is used to fill the cutout plastic. Photo 4. When set this is tidied up with a stanley blade.
The red wire goes to clock/perm live...green to earth and black the backlight to a ignition live or dashlight feed.
Clock is then tested with a battery and a new bulb fitted as required.
Sorry photos are a bit out of focus, but this is a bit close for my cheap camera. I think you should see enough to get a rough idea

I have only just got round to wiring in my bmw clock in the bongo. It works nicely... but the light doesn't

Assuming my wiring is correct, i have to assume the bulb has blown. I,d like to substitute it for a green led anyway, does anybody know the name for this bulb? ( so i can search e-bay)I know its a 12v 1.2 watt bulb. Does the bulb separate from the holder? (wedge type) or is it a complete unit? (holder, & bulb). Thanks in advance...

I f it's a cream/fawn bulb holder it is all one unit. If it's a black holder it may be all one unit or the bulb in some cases will come out. All are interchangeable and the black ones seem easy to get hold of for about £2. If you have any trouble getting one let me know. About 50% of the clocks I get have duff bulbs.

Thanks Haydn, mine has the black holder. I have used what i consider reasonable effort to release the bulb from the holder...( to the point of almost breaking the fiddly little ba****d!)
Now that i know they are interchangeable i'll order the green led's from e-bay, they appear to have the same holder in place

I'll make sure i remove the red filter in the clock first though

Thanks again for the info Haydn

I've got one sorted out thanks. I have for weeks looked on ebay under BMW and they all seem to go for over £20.
Well done Maxheadroom, at that price i'm sure the seller must be a wee bit upset

I think i paid about £15 for mine from e-bay.... and yes, bongo was mentioned in the description

... Thanks Max, i was aware of the filter mate, it looks red on mine though... I reckon it clips off, so then the green in the led should filter through green also.... should....
