is there any order in which to disconnect the batteries
ie positive on main then negative and then same on leisure and vice versa on way back or ?
it's a split relay bit that connects them
afraid was always crap with all things physics related

Negative off first.
Positive on first.
Or the other way round!
Nope, I was right first time.

Imagine you disconnect the +ve first and as you're undoing the battery clamp with your spanner it touches the -ve bodywork or chassis.
That's going to be one big spark, ouch!
Take the -ve off first and it doesn't matter if you spanner touches the van.

Duh - obvious. Better give myself a smack on the head. I was thinking about all knds of techie things like relays sensing an infinitely dead battery and passing an infinitely high current etc. leading to nuclear fusion and core meltdown so the remains of your Bongo emerged out of an erupting volcanic hole in Australia having burned its way through the earth's core. But I always was prone to making volcanoes out of indoor fireworks.
NURSE - fetch the straightjacket.
