Hi
Can anybody advise me where I can locate the sensor for the engine cooling fan. I dont have any problems with overheating, its just that the fan seems to be running all the time. The water levels are ok.

The one thing that I have been trying to do on the Bongo and have failed is to get the engine compartment cooling fan (the on at an angle) to run for a short while after stopping the Bongo.

In the summer the heat from the engine after stopping is a real nuisance and I was hoping to be able operate it from the secondary battery on a timer.

Spring project!

Pippin the sensor for the fan you are talking about is on the top of the engine behind the handrake assembly

Hi
I found out why the cooling fans are running all the time, its the temperature sensor that has failed, which makes the fans run all the time.
I thought I would let everybody know just in case it happens to them.

Nick, did you get a new one, or did you have the old sensor repaired?

Do I assume that the cooling fans run all the time that the ignition is ON and that they stop when you switch off?

It does not look like the can be repaired, they are the probe sort. I got a second hand one from AVA leisure for a tenner as they didnt have new one in stock. Heres the boring bit, I took my van to work where the electrian tested the resistance of the old one, there was no resistance though the probe which causes the fans to run. The new one has a resistance of 2k ohms which reduces when you increase the temperature ( even finger temperature is enough the start the resistance dropping ). Apparently the resistance of the probe has to have to start the fans is between 0.3k ohms and 0.24k ohms or lower. The electrician found out by fitting these resistors in the plug connectors until the fans run. Bit long winded I hope I remembered it all correctly.

Yes they only run with the ignition on.
