My autobox had a hard shifting problem. Transmission fluid was replaced and filter cleaned but problem still there. It is not warm up related as it still happened after 30 mins on the road. From stop, the first gear shift was at around 2700rpm with a jerk, then second and third shift will pull up till 3500-4000rpm, sometimes releasing right foot on accelerator will encourage shifting. After running in this condition for several kilometer, the ‘Hold’ light start blinking at the rate of 1:1, then all the shifting rpm go back to normal and shift smoothly with the 1st gear shift still come with a jerk. Encountered once the ‘Hold’ light was off, the same problem happened again. But now the ‘Hold’ light start blinking even when the key is on but without running the engine.
I wonder if anyone encounter this problem before? Could it be just the solenoid inside the gearbox? Or it is time to replace the whole autobox? Is it safe to keep driving the van with the ‘Hold’ light blinking?

Jerky changes on an auto usually means the torque converter is knackered... does reverse engage immediately? or is there a delay?

Thanks for the reply.
There is no delay in reversing and the Hold light does not come on during reversing. I also notice the blinking hold light turns on after the first forward gear shift. I'm now still driving the car as gear shifting is ok when the hold light is blinking, but just worry if it will just give up on the road.

The only thing which can fail in the torque convertor is the one way stator clutch which can seize bigD............that would cause a slow take off acceleration.
