Bongo Fury

Picture the scene ... I've promised my 2 yeal old neice, sister in law, Mum and Aunty a fantastic day trip out in the Bongo.
We all pack a picnic, put on our warmest coats, go to get in the Bongo ..... the sliding door is stuck. It just totally will not open.
The knob goes up and down when i lock and unlock but the door just will not budge from the outside or inside.

Subsquently, my relatives have been clambering in through the back door all day which has provided us with literally minutes of amusement but what the hell is going on ?

Anyone else ever experienced this ?

Only from the inside when I accidentally knocked the child lock on when I was getting in the van.

Check the child lock on the edge of the door.Then from inside the bongo pull the plunger up on the sliding door it may be slightly stuck mine does it.

mine regulary did this after i first got it. although stuck solid, the lock was open.

i think the thingymejigdoda that slides along the door rail may be slightly loose, as mine now gets stuck every so often when half open and the odd time stuck closed, but brut force or a good name calling normally works.

the out-laws transits sliding door sticks itself to the rubber seal and seems locked. could possibly be that?

I can't open the door to check the child lock though. It won't open from inside or outside

With your key lock it and then open it from the drivers door.The go round to the passenger door and reach round to the sliders plunger and see if you can either pull it up or press it down.

If after checking the fuses it is still the same you will have to take the panel off, it could be as simple as the cable jumping loose, good luck happy motoring.

I think someone sorte a problem like this out by disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it again. The conclusion was the locking mechanism had become confused and needed its memory blanking. Can anyone recall this thread?

As the Bongo is still under warantee (thank goodness), I rang the dealer this morning and he said once he's done the starting motor (going in this Thursday) he'll look at getting the door sorted.
Pffft - such a slow process but probably better than me taking the door apart as I tend to destroy more than I fix.

But I shall print off these threads and show them to him so he can have a go.

No probs Gemtps and good luck - you (= the dealer) dont want to take that door panel off until you've exhausted the other possibilities.

Just wanted to say thank you so much everyone for your help on this.
I printed off the advice about taking off the door panel etc and gave it to my brother yesterday and hey presto - I now have a sliding door again.
Woo hoo !!!!!
