Auto Transmission

When I first drive my auto bongo, usually mornings top gear doesn't auto select until Iv'e travelled a mile or so, is it the temperature of the transmission oil?? or is it an indicator of slightly low oil?? if so how to check level??
no other fault or niggles with the transmission.

Steve at Outback Autos where I bought our Freda told me this was temperature related and did not occur in summer. I pointed out that this site mentions low gearbox oil as a possible reason and he said that he tried changing the gearbox oil completely and it made no difference. Temperature is the key.
Mine did exactly the same thing this morning and kicked after a mile or so.

It's normal until the engine has warmed up and the car is doing just under 40mph.

Peter, your Bongo is behaving exactly as it was designed to do. Top gear does not engage until the gearbox has warmed up. I believe this is intended to help things warm up quicker, as prolonged cold running is not good for any vehicle.
For peace of mind, check the transmission oil level, but I suspect it will be fine.

Yep, mines the same peter, always has been, by all means check the fluid level,dont forget to check after its warmed up,with the engine running. The fluid should be a clear red. Murky brown wont do...
