Haha - yeah simon mentioned the TPS back on page 1 - the unit was checked and deemed ok. Even a specialist said I needed another new box!
Turns out the TPS malfunctions after 20 mins of driving/or when engine gets up to temp. It's all very peculiar....at least it's sorted.
Cheers all involved.

throttle position sensor
funny thing - unless I sub consciously read something about it - just not sinking in
I did read that this was a gadget to change 1st with such problems
6 th sense or just stupid catch up
you learn something everyday

An update on my problem (I'm the Original Poster!)
Following suggestions, I've changed the fuel filter (see earlier posts including my brain malfunction) - no improvement, and changed the ATF fluid - no improvement. I've written up these procedures with photos by the way see
http://howto.probably.me.uk/fuelfilter.html and
http://howto.probably.me.uk/atf.html.
So I'm now back where I started. Reading recent posts here I'm now wondering about the TPS. Where is it, how do I access it, where to get a replacement, approximate cost? Many thanks if anyone can respond.
